We serve Tempe, Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Phoenix, and Ahwatukee — with 35 years of experience building specifically in this climate, on these soils, in this market.
We don't just drive anywhere in the Phoenix metro and call it a service area. These are the communities we've built in for decades — and each one has specific considerations that affect how we design and build.
Tempe is Shadetree's home market — where Chris Flores built the reputation that drives referrals across the entire East Valley. The city's mix of established neighborhoods, university-adjacent homes, and newer developments gives us a broader cross-section of project types than almost any other market we work in. Tempe homeowners are actively engaged with water conservation, and the city's rebate programs reflect that — making turf and xeriscape projects financially compelling in ways that aren't always true in neighboring cities.
Scottsdale is the East Valley's premium estate market — where outdoor living expectations are the highest and projects are correspondingly more complex. Homeowners in Scottsdale typically invest more in materials and design, which suits Shadetree's positioning well. Scottsdale also has the most rigorous permitting environment of any city we work in, particularly around gas systems, masonry improvements, and rebate program compliance. The grass removal and pool rebate programs are currently closed but expected to reopen.
Mesa is one of the Valley's largest cities and a strong market for turf and hardscape projects. The city's grass removal rebate program is active and well-funded, making it one of the better rebate opportunities in the metro for homeowners considering a conversion. Mesa's newer developments tend to have larger lot sizes than Tempe, which creates more opportunity for substantial outdoor living builds.
Chandler is one of the fastest-growing cities in the East Valley and a strong market for premium outdoor living. The city updated its grass removal rebate program in January 2026 to $1.50/sqft, making it a solid incentive for homeowners considering turf — provided they include the required desert plantings alongside the turf. Standard landscaping typically doesn't require a permit in Chandler, but gas, plumbing, electrical, and retaining wall work do.
Gilbert's rapid growth over the past decade has created a strong market for premium outdoor living — homeowners in Gilbert's newer subdivisions are increasingly investing in the kind of outdoor spaces that come standard in older, more established East Valley neighborhoods. HOA density is high in many Gilbert communities, making pre-approval important before starting any visible exterior project.
Phoenix offers the highest per-square-foot grass removal rebate in the metro at $2/sqft up to $3,000 — making it one of the most financially compelling markets for turf and xeriscape projects. The city is actively invested in reducing outdoor water consumption. Phoenix's service territory is large and diverse, from central Phoenix historic neighborhoods to newer communities in the far north and south valley.
Ahwatukee — technically part of Phoenix but with its own distinct community identity — is a strong market for premium outdoor living. The area's mature neighborhoods, mountain views, and active homeowner community create demand for the kind of comprehensive backyard design that Shadetree specializes in. As a Phoenix community, Ahwatukee homeowners are eligible for Phoenix's $2/sqft rebate program.
